Paranook House. Reviewed: June 2009. #1624

Good points: lovely stone cottage, beautiful property. Excellent location for easy access to Tanunda on foot and as a base for exploring the Barossa region by car. Off street parking. Lovely corner spa and separate shower. Not so good points: as the building is old this place is cold and there were no extra blankets nor was any firewood provided for the lovely open fire (although there is a heather in the bedroom but this does not warm the living room).

A box was provided for used cutlery/crockery if required to be washed up/replaced however this box was never collected so sat outside for 3 days accumulating dirty dishes. The toaster was broken. Coffee/tea/sugar sachets were provided but no milk. There were no extra toilet rolls. As the property is on the main road it can be a little noisy from the traffic (we stayed in the suite at the front of the house, right on the main street).

Tanunda is a great place to stay and the pertect place from which to explore the Barossa region. Try the Tanunda Bakery for some great fresh breads, pies and cakes. The Tanunda Hotel does a good evening meal. Schultz butcher in Angaston is a great place for fresh produce (try the bratwurst - really good). Stop by the tourist information centre for info on nearby wineries (there are loads) and ask about a cellar door pass.

Maggie Beer's farmshop is definitely worth a visit (time your visit to catch the free cooking demo at 2pm each day).
